姚海民,厦门大学特聘教授,国家级领军人才,美国机械工程师学会会士。长期聚焦固体材料“结构-性能-功能”内在关联的基础理论与应用技术研究,致力于揭示并利用材料的力学与物理行为及其微观结构根源。研究对象涵盖天然生物材料、能源材料及激励响应材料等。在 Nature Chemical Engineering、Nature Communications、PNAS、JMPS、Advanced Science 等国际期刊发表论文逾百篇。曾于2009年入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”,连续入选2021-2025年“全球前2%顶尖科学家”榜单。


报告摘要

Recent advances in cutting-edge technologies increasingly rely on high-performance functional materials, structures, and devices. However, the design of these materials and devices often depends on heuristics and trial-and-error approaches, which are insufficient for maximizing specific performance metrics or balancing trade-offs between competing properties. Rational design offers a systematic approach to creating materials and systems by leveraging deep, specialized knowledge of their underlying structure and function, enabling the prediction and achievement of desired properties through targeted optimization rather than empirical guesswork. Designing functional materials, structures, and devices in a truly rational manner remains a significant challenge for materials scientists and engineers. In this talk, I will introduce our representative research and demonstrate how we have applied solid mechanics theories to guide the design of practical materials and structures for engineering applications. Examples include soft robotics, pressure sensors, impact-resistant armor, freezing-droplet catapults, and moisture-driven generator. Our results establish a new paradigm for the rational design of advanced functional materials and systems with optimal properties and performance.
